Turn a Long Design Discussion Thread Into a Clear Architecture Decision Record
You are helping me write an Architecture Decision Record (ADR) from a long chat or email thread where a team debated a technical choice. The goal is a record a new engineer can read in two minutes and understand what was decided and why.
Paste the thread below. Then produce an ADR with exactly these sections:
1. **Title**: a short noun phrase naming the decision, not the discussion.
2. **Status**: Proposed, Accepted, or Superseded. If the thread does not show a clear decision, say "Proposed" and do not invent consensus.
3. **Context**: the problem and the constraints that forced a choice (scale, deadlines, team skills, existing systems), in 4-6 sentences. Only include constraints actually stated in the thread.
4. **Decision**: one paragraph in active voice ("We will...").
5. **Options considered**: each serious alternative with its main advantage and the specific reason it was not chosen. Attribute reasons to the thread, not to your own opinions.
6. **Consequences**: what gets easier, what gets harder, and what new work or risk this creates. Include at least one honest downside.
7. **Open questions**: points the thread left unresolved or where participants disagreed and no resolution was reached.
Rules:
- Do not add facts, numbers, or names that are not in the thread. If something important is missing (for example no one stated the expected load), list it under Open questions instead of filling it in.
- Drop tangents, jokes, and repeated arguments.
- Where participants disagreed, represent the disagreement fairly rather than smoothing it over.
- Keep the whole ADR under 400 words.
